Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging
At Leen Mills Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and empowered to succeed. Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) is at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate the unique backgrounds, identities and experiences within our school community, recognising that our differences strengthen us and enrich our learning.
We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment where all pupils, families and staff feel a genuine sense of belonging. Our approach is underpinned by clear Equality Objectives, aligned with the Equality Act 2010, which guide our work to ensure fairness, challenge discrimination and provide equitable opportunities for every child to thrive.
At Leen Mills, inclusion is not just a principle, it is embedded in our daily practice. Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider school experiences, we actively promote British Values and teach pupils about protected characteristics, helping them to understand, respect and celebrate differences in the world around them. We place a strong emphasis on pupil voice, ensuring that children are able to share their thoughts, reflect on their learning and contribute to shaping an inclusive school culture.
We are proud of the progress we are making on our DEIB journey. Through initiatives such as our “Belonging Book,” inclusive displays and diverse reading materials that act as both ‘windows and mirrors,’ we are building a culture where every child feels represented and respected. We continue to develop our practice by working collaboratively as a staff team, strengthening our teaching and ensuring that inclusion is visible, meaningful and impactful across all areas of school life.
Together with our community, we are committed to fostering respect, understanding and kindness, preparing our pupils to be confident, compassionate individuals in a diverse and ever-changing world.
